“Silesian Thing 2023” Award for the PLASA Chair by Nikodem Szpunar

The PLASA chair, designed by Nikodem Szpunar, won the main prize in the Product category at the “Silesian Thing” competition organized by the Cieszyn Castle. The winners of the 19th edition were announced on Thursday, July 18, 2024. Congratulations!

According to the jury’s statement, the chair was praised for its simple, lightweight, and stable construction, which resonates well with the Thonet tradition of bentwood furniture. The jury also appreciated the consistent design process that addressed the challenges posed by environmental and climate changes.

“Silesian Thing” is a regional competition that has been awarding innovative projects for 19 years in three categories: Product, Exhibition, and Applied Graphics. The competition aims to promote high-quality design and highlight the needs of users, including marginalized groups.

The PLASA chair by Nikodem Szpunar for the Paged brand won the main prize in the Product category at the “Silesian Thing 2023” competition. In the Exhibition category, the award went to the Kronika Center for Contemporary Art in Bytom for the “Lombard” exhibition, and a special mention for the “Science is Fun” exhibition by the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice. In the Applied Graphics category, three special mentions were awarded: for the book “Vademecum of Upper Silesian Costumes,” the visual identity of the Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis transport system, and the “Wrrsztat” car workshop.

All nominated projects can be viewed at the post-competition exhibition in the Orangery of Cieszyn Castle until September 15 of this year. The PLASA chairs can, of course, be viewed and purchased in our showrooms in Warsaw and factory outlet in Jasienica.
