ICHO MIO Chair by Nikodem Szpunar Distinguished in Must Have 2024 Competition.
Icho Mio, designed by Nikodem Szpunar, has been distinguished in the Must Have 2024 Competition, organized by the Łódź Design Festival. This prestigious consumer recommendation mark has been awarded since 2011 to the best Polish products.
The chair is part of the multi-award-winning Alter Ego collection, which has been honoured with the title “Best Polish Design.” It stands out with its elegant and minimalist design, which is as light in appearance as it is in structure. The meticulously woven backrest and seat, made of Danish cord, highlight its unique character.
– I am a designer specialising in seating furniture, especially chairs and armchairs. For the past three years, I have been intensely painting, which has given me a new perspective on design. It allows me to approach projects with greater freedom and creativity. I have been collaborating with Paged for about 10 years, growing together with the company. Recently, I was given the opportunity to revisit and improve one of my previous projects, ICHO, a very versatile model known for its simplicity and functionality. I decided to refine its design, adding more details, and chose to incorporate weaving into the chair. Experimenting with materials such as cotton and Danish paper cord, waxed for moisture resistance, I aimed to enhance both its aesthetic values and comfort. Ultimately, I believe the comfort of the chair should be paramount. From this point, I begin to explore its shape and utilise various components, drawing inspiration from the manufacturing process to discover new possibilities – recalls Nikodem Szpunar, the creator of the award-winning chair.
The Must Have 2024 competition, organized by the Łódź Design Festival, recognized 81 innovative projects this year, selected from over 400 submissions, ranging from avant-garde mirrors and modular furniture to technologically advanced gadgets, publications, and applications.
Congratulations to Nikodem Szpunar and the entire team who worked on ICHO MIO.
